Large-scale Renewable Energy Target (LRET) and the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES)
The Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator ORER is a statutory agency established to oversee the
implementation of the Large-scale Renewable Energy Target (LRET) and the Small-scale Renewable Energy
Scheme (SRES). These schemes are implemented through the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000 and
the accompanying Renewable Energy (Electricity) Regulations 2001.
Solar Credits will be provided in the form of Renewable Energy Certificates for eligible renewable
energy sources based on the amount of electricity in megawatt hours (MWh), thereby provides financial
incentive for investment in renewable energy power stations, and for the installation of solar systems.
Solar Credits applies to the first 1.5 kilowatts (kW) of system capacity installed for systems
connected to main electricity grids and up to 20 kW of capacity for off grid systems.
The Solar Credits multiplier from 1 July 2011 is three times, and reduced to two on 1 July 2012
and then be reduced to one on 1 July 2013.
